La serie segue il team della “Divisione Fringe” dell’FBI che ha sede a Boston, in Massachusetts, sotto la supervisione dellaSicurezza Nazionale americana. La squadra utilizza i poco ortodossi metodi della “scienza di confine”, ovvero la Fringe science, e le tecniche investigative dell’FBI per indagare sullo “Schema”, una serie di inspiegabili e orribili eventi innaturali che si stanno verificando in tutto il mondo.

Fringe è stato descritto come un incrocio tra X-files, il film Stati di allucinazione, Ai confini della realtà e Dark Angel
